Hendrik Vermeulen
Hendrik Vermeulen was born in April 1982, in Fauresmith, South Africa. At age 15, he sold his first evening dress and started to focus all his attention on the fashion industry while attending various related workshops and classes.
In 2000, Hendrik enrolled in an intensive “Haute Couture” course at FDI (Fashion Design International) in Pretoria. Three years after, he received his Diploma in “Haute Couture” and was presented with the coveted “Student of the Year” award. Shortly after finishing his studies, Hendrik moved to Cape Town where he worked and gained experience working as Atelier Manager for, internationally renowned fashion designer, Gert van der Merwe.
In 2006 Hendrik Vermeulen decided to start his own business and to produce exclusive evening and bridal wear from a Studio in the centre of Cape Town, studio opened in association with Gert van de Merwe. It is three years after, in 2006, that Hendrik Vermeulen relocated to the Southern Suburbs of the same city and proudly opened his first “Atelier Couture” within the up-market Westlake Lifestyle Centre, in Steenberg.
Hendrik’s work has been featured locally in “One Small Seed” Pop Culture Magazine, Sarie, Visi, Konfetti, Fair Lady Magazine, Full Circle Magazine, My Wedding Day, You and Huisgenoot and internationally in the German “C-Heads” and Swiss “Faces” Magazine. The latter describing him as one of the best examples of young talents in the South African fashion industry. HV Couture creations also appeared on the page cover of Fringe Magazine South Africa (2010) and Velvet Magazine in Germany (July 2011)
Hendrik Vermeulen's work has been showcased on the following fashion shows: Peroni Fashion Show (2011), Mozambique Fashion Week (2010), Positive Heroes Fashion Show (2010), Cape Town Carnival Couture Show (2010), World Cup DJ Couture Show in association with Dino Moran at the CTICC (2010), Style In The City with Trinny and Susannah (2009), Bear to be Vogue (2009) and his creations appeared on the following TV programmes: All Access, Glitterati, Top Billing, Studio 53, to name but a few.
Hendrik Vermeulen Couture has had the privilege to dress several prominent and celebrated South African personalities including Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, Olympic Medalist Elana Meyer, TV Producer Tammy-Anne Fortuin, Actress Vanessa Haywood, Socialite Gina Athans, TV Presenter Bridget Masinga, Model and TV Presenter Cindy Nel, Triumph 2010 Tammy Farrel, Survivor and TV Presenter Vanessa Marawa, FHM Model Tracy McGregor and the list goes on.
Hendrik Vermeulen represented South Africa during Mozambique Fashion Week 2010 - in closing the Pan African Show.
In 2011 South African Lifestyle Television Programme, All Access named Hendrik Vermeulen and Partner, Jean-Daniel Meyer as Red Carpet Specialists. Hendrik Vermeulen Couture also showed their knowledge of the European Royal Court protocol by dressing prominent South Africans to the major weddings of the year 2011 in the UK and Monaco.
